IvanView is "yet another" image viewer/browser/editor. Such concept was first introduced by the well-known ACDSee program several years ago. Since then, many programs mimic it with more or less success.
This program is compatible with a lot of image formats, just take a look at the help file to see the list. Fortunately, it's possible to save an image in a different forma (destination format), minimizing compatibility problems.
You can use the image browser to locate the appropriate set of images. In addition, you can open it for single visualization or even to configure a slideshow presentation with the coolest transition effects.
But the most helpful feature is the built-in editor. When viewing an image, you can make rectangular selections and apply simple effects and transformations, like blur/focus, color/brightness adjustments, and so on.
The user interface is well designed, with colorful and stylish icons on menus and buttons, you will never feel lost or confused. The default color palette is pleasant to the eyes, allowing the user to change the background color.
Regarding the documentation, the program comes with a help file which is well explained and serves as a starting point for the novice user. However, most of times you will not need it since it's very easy to use.
IvanView is a simple but complete solution for image manipulation and visualization, keeping the simplicity of use in mind. It's like the "younger brother" of the "Pro" suites like Adobe Photoshop and such. But no matter how good may be this program, you can get the same feature set for free, just take a look at XnView, for example.
